The Abode of the Self: Black Womanhood and the Sacral Chakra

I had plans to launch the trailer for Season 2 of the podcast this coming Tuesday. But when I paused and slowed myself down a bit, Spirit began dropping more downloads about the other pillars needed to strengthen the structural integrity of this spiritual house we’re building. As you know, we began with our first pillar of Chiron through the post “Do You Know Where Your Wound Lives?” But as I’ve been sitting with this energy, I realized that our House is held up by four pillars, not two. Over the next week and a half, we’ll explore the next three.

Today’s pillar is none other than The Sacral Chakra, known in Sanskrit as Svadhisthana, “The Abode of the Self.” We often think of the Root Chakra when we think of the self — as its the place of “I am.” But the Sacral Chakra takes us deeper, guiding us from “I am” into “I am being.” And this is often where Black womanhood has been disrupted and even stuck. We’ve become masterful at asserting “I am,” often in response to projection, expectation, and survival. But being allowed to rest in the softness of “I am being” has not always been available to many of us. Too often, we’ve had to constantly defend our “I am,” without ever being granted space to simply exist.

We were allowed to survive, produce, grind, endure, and caretake. But to feel? To be? To desire? To create? To rest in our own softness? To inhabit our bodies without performing? That hasn’t always been safe. And this is precisely why the Sacral Chakra is our next pillar.

The Sacral Chakra governs our emotions, creativity, and sensuality. In Hindu tradition, it is connected to the element of Water, which is fluid, ever-changing, and ever-remembering. Many also link the Sacral Chakra to the Moon, and here in our House, we will definitely draw on that correlation. This chakra is ruled energetically by Pluto, the planet of transformation, alchemy, shadow, and rebirth. This is the place where we process our feelings, which — whether we acknowledge it or not — form a significant part of our identity.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this chakra is its auric field, known as the second auric layer. This field is programmed by the Sacral Chakra and holds so much: “our ancestral experiences and beliefs, influences from our families of origin, childhood and adult emotional memories, cultural and societal norms, and everything that has shaped our pleasure, intimacy, and emotional truth. These programs become the “software” that determines which subtle energies enter or exit our system”. This is why many of us find ourselves repeating emotional patterns or attracting the same kinds of relationships or experiences — it is the sacral programming running behind the scenes.

And now you see why this pillar is such a pivotal piece of the House. We begin with Chiron, understanding where our wounds live and what wisdom they hold. Then we anchor with the Sacral Chakra, where Pluto and the Moon invite us to lean deeper into our “being,” our emotional truth, and our creative, sensual selves.

The next pillars you can expect are the Solar Plexus Chakra — ruled by the Sun and focused on our personal and professional power — and The Fool’s Journey, which offers us a map for becoming our truest selves.

These next two pillars will be released over the next week and a half. Everything is weaving together into such a beautiful tapestry. And when the podcast returns, we’ll only deepen into this work even more.

I’m excited to be on this journey with you all. Have a beautiful Sunday.

xoxo,
Goddess Theadora
